We encourage people to break convention, and then mock them when they do. We tell starving artists to take control of their situation and charge for their art, while despising the glamourous ones for selling out. We spend all their childhood telling our children to speak up, and all their teens telling them to shut up.
In other words, people try to perpetuate this notion of progress for progress' sake, oftentimes towards a nebulous goal conjured up by the flock. And when their words finally manifest, they don't like what they see.
