There are benefits to telling other people, people you don't know, about what you do and how you do it. You will get feedback, you will avoid doing what doesn't work, and hopefully accelerate your path to discovering what works.
With anything worth doing, you are bound to find people who find a way to despise you or your work.

But even if you do that, there is a class of knowledge that you should never share. It may be a trade secret, or it may be a deep personal reason for why you do what you do. If it's dear to you, always question whether you should be sharing it. For once someone gets a hold of it in malice, you'll be forced to detact yourself from it - and sometimes that's just too hard to do.
